Why We Pay New Employees to Leave Our Business
We recently implemented a new “policy” – you know how I love that word! (See “Do You Have A Policy About Working Naked?” ) For all new employees, at the end of your first month, we are going to give you an option. Instead of returning on the Monday morning, you can call and say “I don’t want to come back” and we will pay you $1,000. Yup. We will pay you to leave.
Why would we do such a thing? Well, we really do take culture seriously, seriously enough to push people out if they really don’t want to be here and what better way then to pay them to leave?
Think about it. Do you really want that person if they are willing to leave for $1000? Are they really going to be a committed employee who will go through a wall to do what it takes in your business? Probably not.
And if they don’t take it? They show up with great commitment on Monday because they have had to make that decision. And then we will celebrate them on Monday when they decide to really join the family. Well that’s what we think will happen. We haven’t had to pay anything yet. But I am excited for the day that we do.
I wonder if we should offer the same option to a new home care Franchise Partner?
Thanks for that one, Zappos.

Love this and this can transfer into life as well… with other team dynamics and a solution for people who just don’t get it!!!
