Since 2000, franchise systems have begun to take over in the home care industry. Their share of the overall market remains small, but it’s growing quickly, and we’re at the leading edge of this emerging trend.
As of 2011, at least 60 home care franchise systems were operating in the North American home care franchise market, and more and more systems were starting up all the time. Nurse Next Door has expanded its Canadian home care services franchise system to 60 units and our American locations, the first of which opened only in August, to 10 — and that’s Tony Uzzi’s Mission Viejo location, which broke our all-time first-month revenue record.
It’s apparent that franchise systems offer a host of advantages for people and companies looking to serve the exploding market for in home care services, especially for seniors, and that they’re the emerging model for the industry as it moves into 2013.
Support for home care franchise
Franchising is an excellent way for in home care companies to expand quickly and well in a high-growth market, which explains why it’s the dominant trend in the industry and why we decided to begin franchising in 2007. Franchise systems provide the support business owners need while still allowing them to serve their communities as local small business people.
Franchised home care services brands have captured 18 percent of the market share by number of establishments, surpassing the growth rate of non-franchised concepts. The industry is highly fragmented, with the vast majority of providers operating as “mom-and-pop,” independent small businesses. That gives Nurse Next Door, with its well-developed system and advanced “HeartQuarters” in Vancouver, a significant advantage over most of the competition.
The best home care approach
Franchise systems have several built-in advantages over independents. By aligning with a national brand, franchise partners can take advantage of a whole range of resources, tools and both medical and non-medical services that a mom-and-pop can’t duplicate.
