Dayna’s career at Nurse Next Door began almost eleven years ago when she started working as a Caregiver in Calgary, Alberta. After leaving a management position at a competitor, Dayna was drawn to Nurse Next Door as the company’s core values matched her own beliefs on how seniors should, and deserve, to be treated. It only took a few months before Dayna was promoted into an office role to help support the growth of the location – she then found her true passion while working as a Care Designer. Dayna loved her job and the clients she helped every day, and she was continually driven by her genuine desire to give families peace of mind.

After 4 years of making lives better with the Calgary team, Dayna relocated to the Okanagan in British Columbia and took on the role of Operations Manager for Nurse Next Door Kelowna and Vernon. Dayna knew she was on the right path and continued to make lives better every step of the way. Fast forward three years and Dayna was presented with an opportunity to buy her own franchise in Kamloops. This is where her real entrepreneurial spirit began to shine – she began to achieve milestone after milestone as she owns and operates a highly successful location. Now, after several years of supporting the community in Kamloops, Dayna has expanded her horizons yet again – this time to Vancouver Island, where she has purchased the Nurse Next Door franchises in Victoria, Saanich and Esquimalt.

We spoke about this exciting new chapter of business growth with Dayna.

What are you most excited about when it comes to taking on the Victoria location?

I am so excited to move back to the island where I was born and raised. This opportunity allows me to run the business I love, and like my work, I keep families at home together. Now I get to be closer to my family too – this Nurse Next Door journey has brought me back full circle. I am thrilled to bring my passion for care and dedication to the community. I am eager to offer the community options on how and where they want to age and bring our Happier Aging philosophy to the forefront.

What career achievements are you most proud of?

I am humbled at how my career has played out and that what I do makes a difference in people’s lives. It’s remembered, cherished, talked about. Our team makes big and little achievements every day and if it makes an impact in making someone feel relief or get the help they need, then we are doing our jobs.

What does being a Nurse Next Door Franchise Partner mean to you?

I think I have a flair and passion for caring – my childhood friends and family were not surprised when I told them that I was buying a home care company.  It fits with who I am as a person.  As a Franchise Partner, I need to think on my feet and be ready for anything. I have responsibilities to ensure that not only my clients but my team are supported and cared for too. Everyone in this business and Nurse Next Door community is important to me, we are like one big family.  As a Franchise Partner, you need to be motivated and dedicated to doing what you love. I think it takes a special person to be a Franchise Partner, and having been part of the growth of Nurse Next Door, I feel strongly about our co-founders’ visions and dedication to the cause.

How do you plan to run both locations while living in Victoria?

I have an amazing team in Kamloops and many established caregivers who have been working with me for years. The relationships I have built are valuable in the Kamloops area, the whole community is excited for our growth and expansion to Victoria. Our People Experience Coordinator has been busy hiring new team members in Kamloops and Victoria,  as well as managing the care team, admin and just about everything it takes to keep the flow.  Our Community Engagement Specialist continues to manage clients new and old, while ensuring our Caregivers are fully supported and building new relationships in the Kamloops community.

My goal is to eventually build a team in Victoria that reflects what I have in Kamloops, and I am committed to providing plenty of career opportunities for those wanting to make their mark in the health care sector on the island.

What will you bring to the Victoria community?

I am grateful that I have had the opportunity to work and learn with so many different Franchise Partners over the years. I have the experience and reputation of dedication, commitment and trust that I have built for many years coming with me to Victoria. I guarantee we’ll be providing the same high quality of services that we’re known for, and continue to deliver on our brand promise – giving families and the community in Victoria peace of mind.

Giving all Caregivers the opportunity for business ownership in a booming industry

Dayna has a clear passion for caring, which is a common trait for all Caregivers at Nurse Next Door. And it’s that genuine passion and dedication to Nurse Next Door’s core values that transforms our Caregivers into some of our strongest Franchise Partners. Their invaluable insights and on-the-job experience means that they know the business inside and out, and that’s why we encourage and remove barriers for our Caregivers to make the leap to business owners with our Caregiving as a Career and Caregiver to Business Owner initiatives.

Caregiver to Business Owner program works by providing Caregivers with flexible options when it comes to purchasing their own Nurse Next Door franchise. We work with Caregivers to tailor a unique business approach based on their individual situation. It’s all about helping our Caregivers take the next step in their future, and making business ownership an attainable goal for those who know our business better than anyone.

With the in-home care industry experiencing rapid growth, it’s a great time for Caregivers who have thought about making the next step to make a move. Pre-COVID, the US home care market was forecast to grow to $225 billion by 2024, driven by the ever-increasing aging population. Now, as the public perception towards in-home care continues to shift and more and more families begin to see it as a priority for their loved ones, these numbers are only set to increase.
