Meet Melissa Linton, Franchisee of Nurse Next Door Etobicoke!

After a long career in Product Development, Melissa has officially started the next exciting chapter in her story – Franchisee of Nurse Next Door Etobicoke! As someone who loves working with people, and making those people happy, Making Lives Better comes naturally to Melissa.

Let’s get to know our newest Franchisee!

NND: Tell us a bit about your background

ML: I love working with people. I have strong people management and communication skills with a background in project management. I hold a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours from the University of Manitoba, and I’ve worked in Loyalty Marketing for the last 10+ years in Product Development.

NND: Why did you choose to start a Nurse Next Door franchise?

ML: Growing up, both of my parents supported seniors in different ways. My father started his own business specializing in constructing dentures, crowns, bridges and dental appliances for patients of dentists in 1987, and my mother started her career as a healthcare aid in a Winnipeg nursing home when she was 18 years old.

As an adolescent, I witnessed through working with my father how much time and energy goes into owning your own business and starting it from scratch. You are always “on” and thinking about your business, however the reward in knowing you have an impact on someone’s life is priceless.

In any industry, I love to make people happy! In the Loyalty business, I felt fulfilled when our members earned enough miles to redeem something that they typically could not afford. Whether it was a flight, a waffle maker or money off their grocery bill – whatever it was, it was personal to that individual. I think of home care in a similar way – making people happy.

NND: What need is there for home care in your community?

ML: Etobicoke has a large elderly population. Many of them have lived in our community for their entire lives. Seniors deserve the best care, and to be cared for how they choose – that’s where we come in.

NND: What does Happier Aging mean to you?

ML: It’s about that happy feeling inside. It’s fun, exciting and we help our clients live their lives to the fullest. Having that one on one time with a caregiver is the ultimate experience. Just having someone to stimulate your mind, help you with chores around the house or just be there to keep you company goes a long way to living a happy and healthy life – that’s Happier Aging to me!
