Even before the pandemic, there has always been a demand for high-quality in-home caregivers, nurses and support workers in our communities. As we take stock almost a year into the COVID-19 pandemic, one thing is for certain – home care is an essential service and we continue to play an integral part in keeping seniors safe, healthy and happy at home.

Supporting our Franchisees

From the beginning, we have remained committed to supporting our franchise network. As the magnitude of the COVID-19 situation became apparent around the globe in early 2020, Nurse Next Door immediately established a Clinical Task Force with representation across North America to help Franchisees navigate the new territory of a global pandemic. The team worked 24/7 at the height of the crisis to help ensure everyone had the knowledge needed to work safely in accordance with state, provincial and regional health departments.

Our team worked to support our system’s needs for protective equipment, and additional screening policies and procedures were immediately introduced to keep clients and staff safe. We’ve always believed that the home is the safest place to be, and Nurse Next Door’s quick response allowed our Caregivers to continue to deliver on that promise during a time of unprecedented uncertainty.

A new paradigm in home care

From a business perspective, 2020 turned out to be an incredibly busy time for Nurse Next Door. What started out as a time of fear and uncertainty quickly became one of opportunity and responsibility. As other businesses were forced to close, at least temporarily, home care showed no signs of slowing down. Our Franchisees were in a unique position where they had the opportunity to continue to build their business while caring for clients and creating jobs in their communities. In fact, 2020 highlighted that whether it’s in times of economic boom, or times of recession, home care isn’t a luxury – it’s a necessity.

As the public perception of home care continued to shift, we saw a surge in families calling in as they became aware of the role home care played in keeping their loved ones safe. Home care is no longer seen as an afterthought. Families want their loved ones to age in the comfort and safety of their own homes, and those that hadn’t previously considered home care are now looking at it as a priority. The demand for in-home care is showing no signs of slowing down, and is expected to continue to grow in the foreseeable future.

Celebrating success during unpredictable times

Throughout the year, our newest Franchisees launched their Nurse Next Door businesses in 14 locations across North America, and 6 in Australia – with several more getting ready to launch as we head full steam into 2021. Melissa Linton, Franchisee of Nurse Next Door Etobicoke launched her business in late 2020 and has been making waves in her local community ever since. Despite launching during Ontario’s province-wide lockdown, Melissa and her team have been jumping from strength to strength as they provide care, companionship and happiness to seniors in Etobicoke.

Some of our most successful Franchisees celebrated milestone successes throughout the year – which is a massive achievement during a global pandemic. We’ve previously shared the inspirational story of Dayna Frame, Franchisee of Nurse Next Door Kamloops and Victoria. Dayna joined Nurse Next Door as a Caregiver 12 years ago, before quickly embracing her entrepreneurial spirit and buying her first Nurse Next Door location in Kamloops. Fast forward to 2020, and Dayna expanded her horizons by taking over Nurse Next Door Victoria, Saanich and Esquimalt. Dayna’s success continues to grow as she brings her passion for care and dedication to the communities of Kamloops and Victoria.

We also introduced the newest members of our Bold Pink Club, including Kiran Samran. Kiran is the proud owner of Nurse Next Door Elk Grove, California and recently expanded her business to 4 territories. Kiran achieved outstanding success in leading her team, developing people and delivering great results while Making Lives Better in her community.

The only way out is through

As the COVID-19 vaccine makes its way into our communities, a post-pandemic world is on the horizon – which is an exciting time for the home care industry. The pandemic has shown that home care services can (and do) help to reduce hospitalization and long-term institutionalization rates among seniors by providing the medical and non-medical care needed to age safely at home. As the world continues to see the importance of home care in a new light, we are ready to provide all of the care and support for seniors to celebrate independence and age in the homes they love.

Our team has worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic and will continue to adapt and overcome any final challenges that may arise as we navigate the tail end of this tumultuous time across the globe.
