How to Get the Most out of Your Franchise Discovery Day Visit

Hear from our VP Global Franchise Development, Arif, on our home care business opportunity.

Nurse Next Door’s franchise Discovery Process is designed to determine if a prospective Franchise Partner is right for our business and probably the most important step is our Final Interview Day. After weeks of research and calls, candidates are invited up to HeartQuarters in Vancouver, BC to meet the team – in my last post, I talked about this step and what you can look forward to during the day.

The time, the flight, the hotel – these are all investments our candidates make to ensure this is the right opportunity for them. Having spent 10 years helping build Nurse Next Door’s franchise system, here are a few things I suggest for our candidates to make the most out of their visits.

Come prepared

Candidates that have really taken the time to prepare and thoroughly research the Nurse Next Door elder care business opportunity – reviewing our content, watching videos, leveraging their development manager, reviewing our Franchise Agreement, arranging financing – tend to get more out of their visit to HeartQuarters. When prospective partners have done as much of their work ahead of the visit, conversations are more concrete and pragmatic versus conceptual.

Bring your spouse

I can’t stress this one enough. If you have a family, this will most likely be a family business to some extent. Your spouse may be involved but if they’re not, they’ll still be beside you as you celebrate your wins and work through your challenges. Bring them along so they can meet the team and experience the culture first hand. Candidates who involve their spouse along the whole Discovery Process are often able to navigate the process easier as they have the support and valuable insights from their loved ones.

Know what you want to get out of your visit

One question we’ll ask you to start the day – “What is the one thing you want to get out of your visit?”. Do you want to learn more about our marketing systems? Our Care Services Center? Recruiting and hiring? If you can articulate what you want to focus in on, you’ll certainly get more out of the day.

Be open and honest

It’s called a Final Interview Day because, well, that’s what it is. But unlike a job interview, you’re not trying to get the job. Be real. Tell us your strengths but be honest about your weaknesses. Our team is of course trying to understand if your experience and skill set is right for our business model but they are also looking to determine how best to support you during operations. Your interview sessions are meant to be a candid discussion to set you up for success.

If you’re nearing the end of our Discovery Process, I look forward to seeing you at a Final Interview Day very soon. If you’re just starting out your research, I invite you to join us on one of our upcoming conference calls here.
